Mary received her bachelor's degree in mathematics at UC Berkeley, but she is quick to point out that investment and financial planning is not just about numbers. Since entering the financial services industry in 1986, Mary has understood that her clients are best served by good and constant communication. With continual interaction, Mary has built a solid client base of individuals, families, professionals and successful business owners.
“Helping Build and Protect Wealth” is the motto that Mary lives by. To this end, she continually updates her career-related education, in order to pass on the latest and most effective information, while devising and planning financial strategies that work. She holds the designations of Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Certified Funds Specialist (CFS) and Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) and Certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC). In addition, Mary is a Registered Investment Advisor. Most recently Mary earned the certification of Special Care Planner, which is about planning for the families of special needs children.
One way Mary serves her community is as an educator. She teaches comprehensive Financial Planning at the College of Alameda and Chabot College . Media appearances include interviews on KCBS and KSFO's “Financial Fitness” program, The San Leandro Chamber of Commerce and many other civic and professional organizations. In this way she can reach beyond her regular clients to help those who may have “just a question” or to those who may require the experience of a competent Advisor to execute a full financial strategy.
Mary has been married for over 45 years and the couple has two grown sons, Howard and David, of which they are both very proud. Son David's decision to join Grodin Financial makes Mary very happy that her business legacy will live on. But ask Mary if she has any plans to retire soon and she will say that she is doing what she loves and making sure she's physically fit to do it – she's active in Martial Arts and currently holds a second degree black belt.
